Fiber to the Library Internal Connections

Fiber to the Library Internal Connections (FTTL-IC)

For all Connecticut libraries that were not yet connected to CEN, this project provided them the opportunity to benefit from a fully funded fiber build connecting their library to CEN and gain access to the full range of products, services, and community resources and events that distinguished CEN from all other Connecticut Internet service providers.

This project provided full funding to build a dedicated fiber connection to CEN for a 20-year period, along with CEN equipment and labor to provision the service, and all associated project management costs. Once connected to CEN, members became responsible for the monthly recurring subscription cost to the CEN DIA Bundle and the monthly fiber maintenance cost.

CEN’s Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) Bundle subscription provided members with a growing suite of performance and security features designed for members at no additional cost including:

  • Ability to burst to full line speed without data caps and overage charges
  • Dedicated bandwidth and tier commitments matched to regular usage (95%ile)
  • Full time protection from distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks
  • CIPA compliant web filtering
  • Cloud connectivity to AWS, MER, GCP, OCI
  • Ultra low latency
  • IPv4 and IPv6 addressing
  • Managed router
  • DNS firewall protection and DNS hosting
  • 24 x 7 x 365 proactive monitoring
  • Access to consortium pricing
  • Access to community training and collaboration events
